About EV Charging Cost Calculator UK

Site mission

EV charging prices are not always obvious. Home tariffs use pence per kWh, public chargers vary by network and speed, and real vehicles use different amounts of energy per mile. The goal of this site is to provide transparent, editable calculations that a real UK driver can sanity-check quickly.

Calculation approach

The calculators use local TypeScript functions for charge sessions, distance cost, annual mixed charging, charging time, and fuel comparisons. Inputs are processed in the browser. The fuel comparison uses the UK imperial gallon conversion of 4.54609 litres per gallon.

Default assumptions include 90% charging efficiency, 18 kWh/100km consumption, and 7,500 miles per year, but every important rate is editable.

Data update policy

Default rates and sample EVs are stored in local data files so they can be updated when electricity prices, fuel prices, or example vehicle assumptions change. The visible last-updated date should be changed whenever those defaults are reviewed.
